Packaging Tips for Parcel Shipping with Cargoboard

This article provides an overview of proper packaging guidelines, permitted dimensions and weights, as well as possible surcharges when shipping parcels with Cargoboard.

1. Choose the Right Packaging

Use a sturdy, double-walled corrugated cardboard box. The size of the box should match the contents.
A box that’s too small leaves no room for padding. A box that’s too large gives the contents too much space to move and increases the risk of transport damage.

2. Pack Items Securely

  • Use sufficient cushioning material that suits the weight and nature of the contents.
  • Fragile items should always be packed individually.
  • There should be at least five to six centimeters of space between the product and the walls of the box.

Note: For heavy items, we recommend dense and pressure-resistant cushioning material.

3. Seal the Package Properly

Use suitable shipping tape. For shipments weighing 25 kilograms or more, reinforced tape is required to ensure the package stays securely closed.

4. Attach the Shipping Label Correctly

Place the shipping label with full sender and recipient details clearly visible on the largest surface of the box.

Note: You’ll receive the correct shipping label from us one day before pickup.

5. Verpackungen mit besonderen Anforderungen

Liquids

Liquids, such as beverages, must be carefully and leak-proof packaged. The packaging must meet Cargoboard requirements.

Heavy Items (over 25 kg)

The box seams should be stitched or stapled – not glued. Ensure the weight does not exceed the box’s load capacity.

Irregularly Shaped Items

Rolled items such as posters, plans, or maps should be shipped in triangular mailing tubes – not cylindrical ones.

Fragile Items

Always use a new, double-walled corrugated box.
Used boxes often don’t provide sufficientprotection.

6. How to Provide Correct Package Dimensions

  • The longest side of the package counts as length

  • The second-longest side is width

  • The remaining side is height

Important: Always round up to the next whole centimeter.

7. Maximum Dimensions and Weight

The following limits apply for parcel shipping with Cargoboard:

  • Maximum length: 100 cm

  • Maximum second-longest side: 76 cm

  • Maximum girth: 300 cm

  • Maximum weight: 30 kg

Note: Packages exceeding these limits are not permitted. Incorrect declarations during booking may result in additional charges.

8. Possible Surcharges

Surcharges apply when deviating from standard guidelines. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Packaging made of wood or metal

  • Cylindrical items not fully wrapped in corrugated cardboard

  • Packages longer than 100 cm

  • Packages with a second-longest side over 76 cm

  • Packages over 25 kg

Note: We reserve the right to refuse transport of packages with incorrect declarations.
