How do I specify the damage amount, damage weight and damage description?

What is the damage amount?

The damage amount is the actual financial loss incurred due to the damaged goods. It cannot exceed the value of the goods stated on the commercial invoice (e.g. sales or purchase invoice).
When you report a claim to Cargoboard, we will provide you with a template for the damage invoice. You can use this template to initially invoice us for all costs incurred.

Please note that requesting a damage invoice does not constitute an acknowledgment of the claim. We also refer to the duty to mitigate damages (i.e. all parties are obliged to keep the damage and its consequences as low as possible).

How do I determine the value of the damaged goods?

The value of the damaged goods must be proven with a commercial invoice. Please upload your sales invoice for the shipped goods to your digital damage file.

What is the damage weight?

The damage weight refers to the weight of the damaged goods.
If your shipment consists of a single item, simply provide the total weight. If the damaged goods can be disassembled or the shipment consists of multiple parts, indicate the weight of the damaged components only.

Example:
You are shipping 10 buckets of paint on a pallet. One bucket is damaged in transit and starts leaking. When reporting the damage, you should state the full weight of the damaged bucket as the damage weight.
